Described by the NME as, �indie with post rock tinges�, The Briganties have been busy carving out a reputation for themselves on the new music scene, particularly in their native north east England and southern Scotland. The emerging Berwick-upon-Tweed five-piece, named after an ancient tribe of hill dwelling Celts also from northern Britain, conquered the ears and captured the hearts of critics with their unanimously acclaimed debut single ‘The Girl Heaven Sold to the World’ which was released in the spring of 2008.
Q Magazine said “A band bursting with potential and definitely ones to watch in 2008. ‘The Girl Heaven Sold to the World’ is an epic song destined to become a classic. God bless The Briganties!” While popular Newcastle based music magazine, Narc commented the single displayed “all the best qualities of an anthem, indie back to its best again”. Frontman, Liam Smith was singled out for praise by John Earls of Planet Sound, Channel 4 Teletext saying that his “laidback vocals tear at the heartstrings”.
‘The Girl Heaven Sold to the World’ sold out in its physical format on its promotional tour which lead to the band receiving airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Newcastle as well as a number of independent stations and internet radio.
Although presently unsigned The Briganties are in the process of recording their as yet untitled debut album which is hotly anticipated by A&R departments of record labels, both major and independent. With soaring melodies and anthemic choruses to go with their proven track record with the critics, whoever takes the punt to land the bands’ signatures are onto a surefire winner.
